Credit Where Credit Is Due
Your credit score can make a huge difference in the rate you are charged for a loan. Credit scores are numbers that are assigned to you based on your credit history. They are typically referred to as FICO scores. FICO is short for Fair Isaac and Company. The information that is used to determine your score is derived from credit card companies, banks and other financial institutions where you have loans and other consumer information. The numbers are added up and used to determine whether you qualify for low-cost rates, higher risk loans, or no credit at all. Generally speaking, FICO scores range from 300 to 850; the higher the number, the better.
